Carly Petrone is a California native who grew up in the bay area. Since graduating from UC Davis in 2002, she has worked in sales for Time Inc. and AOL. However, writing and comedy were always two passions that she wanted to pursue as a career. Itching to become the next Tina Fey, Carly moved to Los Angeles…twice. She took improv and writing classes at The Groundlings Theatre in Hollywood and worked for The Ellen Degeneres Show as a Production Assistant. Having written a spec script of The Office as well as her own pilot called Powder Perfect, she hopes to sign with an agent in the near future.
In 2009 Carly moved to New York City and immersed herself in everything the Big Apple had to offer. She spent most of her time at the famous Upright Citizens Brigade in Chelsea where she fulfilled one of her dreams of performing improv on stage. She also met the head of marketing for CBSNewYork.com while taking a comedy class, which led her to contributing to the blog on a regular basis. Last year she started a section called “Things To Do in NYC Tonight” where she picks five interesting events happening in and around the city. Click here to read her daily column. She’s also contributed to InStyle, Claph, Sloane, and myrecipes.com.
Thanks to her experience working for CBS the door to writing more than just comedy has been opened. Currently, Carly is pursuing a graduate degree in Journalism at The University of Oregon. She’s interested in writing about the arts and food, while photojournalism is another subject she can’t wait to learn more about. She still writes daily posts for CBSnewyork.com and is available for freelance work.
