Demystifying the First Floor of the Knight Library

Walking to Knight Library at The University of Oregon, you’re surrounded by a plethora of resources.  The best way to find your way through the first floor is by picking up the bright yellow map located at the entrance.  This floor has the most resources for students and faculty.  Some of these include the Adaptive Technology Center, which is used for students with disabilities.  There, U of O employed students can transcribe homework, scan documents into the computer, or read assignments out loud to them.

Microform

The microform area includes archival newspapers from Oregon, the U.S. and around the world.  You can also find educational texts that are no longer in print here.

Computer Printing

The lobby is full of Dell computers for students and faculty with a few designated for the public.  Students can pay for printing using Campus Cash, which is located as you enter the library or online.  Past the lobby, in the back there are fifteen computers with scanners already set up for Macs and PCs.

Scanners

The Document Center is a repository for Oregon state and federal documents.  This includes such material as minutes from the Senate and documents from the government printing office.

There are four information desks available for students, too.  These include Microforms, Document Center/Computer Help, Research, and Front Desk/Checkout.  There’s always someone at the front to help you if you have questions.

Room with printers and scanners

Another great resource on the first floor is the video library.  With a collection of browsable DVD’s, you’ll find everything from documentaries and instructional videos to feature films.  Students and faculty can rent these for up to three days.

Students can also find:

  • Classrooms, Conference Rooms, Browsing Rooms, Presentation Rooms, and Reading Rooms
  • A Defibrillator
  • An ATM and phone
  • A room with scanners and copiers
  • Lockers
  • Interlibrary Loan
  • Collaboration Center/Work Stations
  • Computer Help
  • Library Administration
  • Reference Collection
  • Reserve Materials
