Eugene Students Lose Bus Perks

Eugene is an environmentally friendly city which highly focuses on alternative transportation.

One of the perks of this is that students have had access to the bus system at no cost. According to the Register Guard, this is coming to an end. Due to a loss of funding, high school and middle school students will lose their free pass (so to say) in June 2012.

The Lane Transit District is hoping that the reduced rates for younger students will keep the younger crowd riding.

The University of Oregon will remain unaffected as they negotiate their own contract with LTD each year. In the last year, former ASUO president, Amalie Rousseau worked to lower the LTD contract.

In a time where LTD is becoming more advanced, partaking in the social networking environment, it is fighting to keep it’s ridership and funding.
